Spinnaker House on Queensland’s Fraser Coast addresses its steep topography, unique climatic conditions, distant views and neighbours, through the use of filtering screens, walls of sliding glass and large scale automated clerestory elements. The resultant form is reminiscent of a full sail, a Spinnaker.
Divided over two levels, the upper (entry) level provides all living spaces and the lower has bedrooms and access to a plunge pool, productive garden, outdoor kitchen and fire pit.
The entry bridge provides a framed view to Hervey Bay, and plays with the concept of leaving terra firma and boarding a vessel. The entire upper level is is one large column free room containing all living areas, reading as a large verandah room. Occupants can adjust and ’trim’ the building using the walls of sliding glass and automated clerestory systems allowing sun, air flow and views to suit their preferences
